The News You Need to Know

Last year, I made a number of facebook posts containing news items. It seemed well received. I've decided to continue the practice as a blog.

I plan to avoid topics related to politics, although I suspect that all topics of interest have some political aspects. Let's just agree that there are millions of people writing about the president of the united states - both for and against - and I'll leave those feverish topics to their capable though sweaty hands.

We aren't just looking for the motivational and uplifting stories. Those are nice, in moderation.

We aren't a science news blog, but let's be honest ... we all need a contemporary grip on the frontiers of science.

Mostly it's like when take photos. I'm hoping to show you how the world looks through my wacky vision. Welcome.

I'm going to allow moderated comments. If you don't see yours, send me a message and I'll either explain why I didn't post it, or admit that I forgot.

Finally, I plan to have all readers register. I don't plan to share that information with anyone else. This newsletter is free, but neither one of us will be anonymous. Okay?

I'll eventually include all of the prior posts here as 2019 blog posts. Bear with me while I find a style and a format that works.

Various and human frailty

  • ·     Verena Vogeler tweeted this photo. Here's the story. Last week two men "escaped" the nursing home in rural Dithmarschen (Germany) to join 75,000 heavy metal fans at the 20th Wacken Open Air festival near Hamburg. Event promoters said, "You're never too old to rock." Nursing home managers panicked when they couldn't find them, and police escorted them back after two days of head banging. Looks like they weren't the only mature fans. #NewsYouNeed
  • ·     In case you missed the announcement, Patrick Stewart will reprise the role of Jean-Luc Piccard in a new Star Trek series for CBS All Access. There are no scripts yet. EDITORIAL COMMENT: You can bet that CBS All Access is going to be added to the cable mix in nursing homes across the US soon. #NewsYouNeed
  • ·         Technology and social media are relatively new corporate activities, and make a lot of the “errors of enthusiasm” when they occasionally need the “wisdom of complacency.” In the end, these faux pas are human errors, producing egg on the face. Today I want to talk about Human Error, and some avoidable errors that were costly. #NewsYouNeed #HumanFrailty
